Security
through BCM

Facility failure, IT failure, staff shortage or failure of a service provider can occur at any time. Our Business Continuity Management (BCM) provides alternatives in case of outages: for example, working from home, redundant systems in IT, recruitment by external personnel service providers or manual activities. This minimises risks and the impact of emergencies remain manageable.

A normal working day at the bank, everything is as usual and nothing can happen. But is that really the case? Emergencies and serious crises can arise from a minor inattention or technical malfunction: Business processes may falter or fail, DZ BANK may suffer damage to its image and enormous financial losses, or it may violate applicable laws. These risks must be minimised.

Business Continuity Management or BCM exists for this purpose. BCM is located centrally in the company and is represented decentrally by BC Coordinators. They are the direct contact persons for employees in the branches. This BCM organisation structure at DZ BANK ensures that minor incidents do not turn into crises.

BCM distinguishes between four failure scenarios:

  • Facility failure, for example in the event of fire
  • Staff shortages, for example if many employees are unable to work due to a pandemic
  • Failure of service providers, for example in the event of a strike
  • IT failure, for example when IT systems are no longer available due to a power failure

Thanks to regular training, exercises and audits, DZ BANK's BCM organisation structure is well prepared for all these scenarios and has detailed Business Continuity Plans. It assesses the situation, initiates and coordinates measures - for example, working from home, redundant systems in IT, recruitment by external personnel service providers or manual activities. This minimises risks and keeps the impact of emergencies manageable.

In order for the BCM and the BCM organisation structure to function smoothly, we rely on the support of all employees. If you notice an emergency, inform your BC Coordinators - or contact your building security or reception In case of IT problems, contact your branch data protection officer or IT Department. Further information and telephone numbers can be found in the BCM-Box on the intranet. Also, be sure that you have all relevant BCM information available. For instance, the web address for emergency news.

And most importantly: Always keep your eyes and ears open - that way small incidents don't turn into big crises.
